Love Yourself

Every year, I hear mixed reviews about Valentines Day, “I hate it, I love it, it’s made up by the candy companies, it’s single’s awareness day” and on and on. I’m sure you’ve heard it too. For me, I like Valentine’s Day. I like the pink and red, hearts, flowers, doilies, glitter, all the girly stuff. I’ve enjoyed Valentine’s Day single and taken and equally love a night out with my girlfriends or a date night with my boyfriend.

Although Valentine’s Day is about celebrating relationships, there is one relationship you’re forgetting about – often the most important relationship in your life. The relationship with yourself.

On Valentine’s Day, we think about our boyfriends, girlfriends, siblings, roommates, and parents who we want to express our love to.  For some, Valentine’s Day can be difficult because it often brings up absence in our lives. The absence of a boyfriend, husband, date, perfect plans, or those dozen long stemmed roses that never seem to arrive on our desk at work.

While we’re focusing on  the missing pieces, we frequently fail to recognize  what we already have, ourselves! We need to remember how amazing we really are. Yes you reading this, you’re amazing and should remember that! On a holiday dedicated to love, we often forget to love ourselves.

You shouldn’t be excluded from the love you give on Valentine’s Day.  We should embrace our relationship with ourselves, think positively, and even treat ourselves. I fully support the act of showing myself some love through a pedicure, new handbag, or some frozen yogurt ;)Valentine's Day Fashion

I challenge you to love yourself more this Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget when you’re spreading love to your family, significant other, and friends to take a moment to acknowledge how special you are. Each day, it is ourselves who get up and go to work. It is ourselves who care for our friends and family. It is ourselves who manage to look fabulous even when we don’t feel fabulous. This Valentine’s Day, learn to love yourself!
