Styling a Cold Spell

Nothing throws a wrench in an outfit like freezing weather. Growing up in Montana meant for 5 months of the year my heels went into hibernation as snow consumed the streets. I’d like to say  after spending a good majority of my life trading my pumps for parkas and headbands for hats, I’ve become an expert cold weather stylist.

The key to looking fashionable during winter is not allowing your outwear to hide your outfit. Instead, let your jacket, gloves, boots, and hat accentuate your look. Dress in layers that match or coordinate well with one another. When you add or remove layers, your outfit will look complete and your outwear pieces will blend well whether you’re indoor or outdoor.

For this look, I chose to keep the color palette simple: gray, black, and white. It’s easy, chic, and everything matches! If I go inside and decide to remove my gloves and jacket, the hat and vest still match. If I try another combination and remove the vest and hat, the necklace, gloves, and booties look good together. It’s as easy as that!

I love the all the tiny details in this outfit – the lace up booties, jeweled gloves, delicate stone necklace, and of course I had to add a festive red lip!

Sometimes, I like to think I can control everything, but weather will never be one of them. We may have to give up sandals in December but that doesn’t mean we should have to choose between looking fashionable and freezing. And luckily, we don’t.

  1. I could not imagine living in Montana and putting away my heels for 5 months! How did you do it?!

This look is very chic! I love you styled layers of black and gray with a crisp white to stay warm and stylish in cold weather. Gorgeous photos and gorgeous styling!
