Minimalist Fashion Tips for the More is More Girl

I’ve never been totally sold on minimal style. I’m the type of person who loves a full closet and an outfit that consists of a multiple layers, jewelry, and details. It wasn’t until the last few years that I began to notice the popularity of minimalist fashion and I have to say…I love it! But even with my admiration for a simplistic wardrobe, I know I could never fully embrace the minimalist lifestyle. After a trip to Fremont boutique, Pipe and Row, I found enlightenment and created 4 minimalist fashion tips for the “more is more” girl.

1. Fit is Everything

Let the fit of your clothing speak for your outfit rather than a loads of layers or jewelry. The fit of your clothes can speak more than the color, texture, or pattern. Wearing unfitted jeans and a loose blouse is nothing compared a pair of high-waist, fitted jeans with a tailored blouse. I let the amazing shape of these Frame skinny jeans contrast with this chunky sweater to create a simple, but significant look.

2. Color is Okay

Many minimalist fashion bloggers stick to white, black, and gray. And maybe minimalists will disagree with me, but I believe wearing more color is acceptable. Minimalist style is about investing in few pieces that are essential to your wardrobe and styling them simply. If you can’t live without light pink or dark blue, you can still embrace minimalist style by implementing these colors into your essential pieces.

 3. Seek Textures and Tailoring

In this case, more is not more. While minimalism is not about stacking your arm with bangles and jewels, you can still have fun with outfit details. Opt for textures or items with unique tailoring to make a statement. The thick, knitted detail of this Ganni sweater provides interest to the outfit rather than adding more clothing items like a jacket or hat.

4. Wear One Significant Accessory

Okay, “significant” might sound a little relative but I meant it to be. Significant for you is different than it is for me. Depending on your outfit, a significant accessory could be a tiny gold necklace or in my case, a pair of large tassel earrings. Let one accessory compliment your look, whatever you choose it to be.

  1. Love your tips! I am someone who needs to incorporate more color into their wardrobe..heh heh. Those are gorgeous earrings and just the right amount of color and statement.

  2. I Love that bag so much! I’m personally lean more toward the minimalist style but this is great advice in how to make sure that the limited amount of items you use make an impression.
