Holy Chic

Recently, I took at detour at Nordstrom over to the MAC counter. I’ve always been a lipstick fan and I scanned over the endless colors. When I asked for a nude lipstick, the saleswoman kindly refused. She said I needed to try a purple/red shade that was the perfect statement lip. She insisted I could pull it off.

She turned me around to the mirror and said the lipstick was called “Rebel.” Boom, I was sold.

While most people know I am far from rebellious, my new lip color did put a little attitude in my step. And beyond my attitude, it inspired an entire outfit. Who knew a lipstick could do so much?! I channeled my inner “rebel” and created a 90’s inspired teen angst look with a touch of modern style.

How many 90’s looks are complete without leather and plaid? Answer…very few. I requested to Michelle that we shoot somewhere urban grunge. Obviously we ended up in Capitol Hill which perfectly grasped the concept of urban grunge and 90’s rebellion.

I couldn’t resist the pun on this shirt…gotta love a little fashion humor. Also, how amazing is Michelle Dorman?! She completely grasps my Hot Dress Hot Mess concept and brings the blog to life.

I can’t express my love for fashion. Fashion gives anyone the ability to transform into an emotion, attitude and embrace who we are or who we can be. Style gives us power to go from a woman who wears pastels and pearls to a woman who wears ripped jeans and “Rebel” lipstick.
