An Outfit is Worth a 1,000 Words

Part of why I love fashion is having a story behind the pieces I’m wearing. A memory, a great deal or amazing find can turn an everyday outfit into something unique to you and your style – and always a conversation starter! This outfit consists of basic box store pieces accentuated by a necklace, a box clutch, and a pair of heels that tell a story.

Item 1: Vintage Queen Pendant. I found this necklace at a thrift store in high school. Good job 16 year old me! Thrift stores are a gold mine for unique, vintage jewelry. This necklace is reminiscent of Versace, but definitely far from designer. It gives that vintage, glamorous statement which always fosters conversation.

Item 2: Studded, knuckle box clutch. For awhile, I had an obsession with the Alexander McQueen box clutches. I mean, who wouldn’t? They are somehow simultaneously beautiful and badass. While I let my dream die of owning a $2000 5×5” McQueen clutch, I didn’t give up all hope. I stumbled across this box clutch at…TJ Maxx! 30 bucks. Well it’s not McQueen, but there are studs, skulls, and adds interest to any outfit.

Item 3: Okay, let’s get to the good stuff. Yes, those are Louboutins on my feet. Now I know what you’re thinking, how does someone early in their career afford $700 shoes?! Well, one day I wandered by a little store called Driftwood Consignment and what catches my eye? Nothing other than black patent leather red bottom heels!

Now some people will argue if “fate” is real. But when you walk by a consignment store with Christian Louboutin black patent leather heels in your size, red bottoms shining in the window, you will believe in fate. The next part may put you in shock so sit down. I paid $150 for my Louboutins. Now that, is a story.BaileyOverpass-29

Developing personal style is about finding the pieces that make your look different from anyone else’s. It’s the brooch from your grandmother, the leather jacket you bargained for at a street sale, or the Louboutins that happened to be in your size at a consignment shop. Embrace the stories behind your wardrobe because an outfit really is worth a thousand words.
